I wrote a bit about his pitching mechanics on my site, Driveline Mechanics. You can check it out <a href="http://www.drivelinemechanics.com/2008/11/14/661302/quick-post-tazawa-junichi" title="Tazawa Junichi's Pitching Mechanics - Driveline Mechanics" rel="nofollow">here</a>.

I sourced your site as well. Thanks for all the hard work!

This is an important time in the history of the MLB-NPB relationship. Both sides are going to have to make some adjustments in how they target and manage their players, because once Tazawa signs state-side it will show all other amateur players bypassing NPB is a viable option. Also, there are a good number of MLB clubs in the mix, not just the teams often mentioned in the press.

Not sure why he wasn't drafted out of high school. He was eligible for the NPB draft last year but chose to remain with his amateur team.

[...] Tazawa is younger than the typical Japanese import, because he’s not waiting the 9 years required for international free agency as a pro player. He’s 23 and features a low 90’s fastball, a 12-6 curve and a shuuto (kind of like a screwball it moves in on righties). That repertoire led to a a 56K:4BB ratio in 54 innings.
