NPB Launches English Page

» 01 April 2009 » In npb »

NPB has launched an English version of it’s homepage. With opportunities increasing for Japanese players to compete on international stages such as the Olympics and the WBC, the demadn for an English resource for the league had been mounting.

There’s nothing fancy on the website yet, but the launch of an English page is a step toward the right direction for NPB. Individual team rosters, stats, schedules, brief history and the stadium information is listed so far. Also the roster for the WBC Japanese team can be seen as well.

I wouldn’t be. The Japanese language site is pretty barebones.

Yeah, you’re probably setting yourself up for a let down. I agree with Ryo that it is better than nothing though.

Launching the individual teams’ sites will be a huge improvement.

PHWjort — my blog software mistakenly flagged you as spam and ate your comment on the McPherson post. Sorry ’bout that. You should be approved going forward though.

Yeah, a 2009 schedule or even today’s pitching matchups would be nice. Geez.

It looks like they restored the old IBM-BIS English section from the mid-1990s. That was before NPB took it over, renamed it NPB-BIS, and broke much of the English section before dropping it all together.

    Aaron,

I’ve had the 2009 schedules up here for a couple of months.

As for the pitching match-ups, the Central League keeps that a guarded secret until 30 minutes before the game starts. You’ve got a lot of deeply ingrained conditioning to overcome. The problem goes deeper than a web site will fix.

Apparently WordPress thought so, but I’ve straightened them out :). It’s too bad because what you said about McPherson looked like an interesting comment.
