Hanshin signed and introduced Craig Brazell on May 28 (JST). Craig gets a contract through the end of the season paying him $250k plus performance bonuses. No word current word on when he’s expected to debut but previous reports put it around June 5th. “I want to taste victory,” commented Brazell.

I can see “flop” written all over this. But hey, Craig should grow out his beard a little more and he could be the next Randy Bass due to the fact that they’re wearing the 1985 throwbacks right now and who knows. I wonder if Hanshin and it’s fans have been focusing on the wrong “curse” all of these years. Perhaps they should look into the “Curse of Hanshin’s Poor Scouting of Gaikokujin Players” and who knows, it could join Colonel Sanders as part of their lore.

He looks happy so i’m predicting success*

*Standard of success for foreign players in Hanshin is anything over .200

Going from the Northern League to Japan would make most ballplayers happy. And for Hanshin, at $250k (plus whatever they paid to the Saints), it’s a pretty low-risk move, at least financially. But on the other hand, Brazell struck out a ton last year with Seibu, is moving to a bigger home field, and overall this feels a little knee-jerkish.

I got no logical argument whatsoever but I still got a good feeling about this
